Severe Storms Hit Brianza Region

Published: 2024-08-27

Severe thunderstorms have struck the Brianza region, just north of Milan, causing significant rainfall early this morning.

Between 6:30 and 8:00 AM, Paderno Dugnano received 47 millimeters of rain, Rho 32 millimeters, Monza 22 millimeters, and Cinisello Balsamo 9 millimeters.

Marco Granelli, Milan's Security Councillor, assured that the Seveso River's flood wave is currently passing under Niguarda with levels slightly above one meter, posing no immediate threat.

However, more storms are approaching from the west, affecting areas like Abbiategrasso, Magenta, and Lonate Pozzolo.

The situation is being closely monitored by the Seveso containment basin and civil protection operations.

Weather forecasts predict continued instability, with thunderstorms expected to intensify in central and southern Italy later today.

Temperatures are set to rise significantly in the coming days, reaching up to 39°C in some regions.
