A violent riot broke out late Saturday night at the Beccaria juvenile prison in Milan, resulting in eight injured inmates, one of whom was hospitalized.

The unrest began around 10 PM when detainees set fire to mattresses in several cells and attempted a mass escape by reaching the prison's main gate.

While three inmates managed to escape, one was quickly recaptured, and two remain at large.

The facility was immediately surrounded by police and firefighters, with ambulances on standby.

This incident echoes a similar uprising in August, highlighting ongoing issues within Italy's prison system.

Gennarino De Fazio, a union leader, criticized the government's handling of the prison crisis, citing years of neglect and mismanagement.
