Fifty years ago, on the night of August 3-4, 1974, a tragic bombing on the Italicus train between Florence and Bologna claimed the lives of twelve people, including a heroic railway worker, Silver Sirotti.
The explosion occurred in a tunnel, resulting in a fire that engulfed the train, which was carrying many travelers, including migrants returning to work in Germany.
President Sergio Mattarella commemorated the anniversary, expressing solidarity with the victims' families and highlighting the neofascist motives behind the attack.
He emphasized the importance of remembering the tragedy and honoring the bravery of those who risked their lives to save others.
The event remains a painful reminder of Italy's violent past, as leaders continue to call for truth and justice regarding the attack.
