Italy's railway network is facing significant delays due to ongoing maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, affecting routes between major cities like Milan, Rome, Verona, and Vicenza.
The disruptions, expected to last until late August, have sparked a political clash.
Transport Minister Matteo Salvini defends the situation, highlighting that over 90% of trains are still on time despite 1,400 active construction sites and a €650 million investment in safety and infrastructure.
Salvini credits the dedication of railway workers for maintaining service levels.
However, Antonio Misiani of the Democratic Party criticizes the handling of the situation, arguing that the disruptions have been poorly managed and demanding accountability from Salvini and RFI.
Misiani emphasizes the need for transparency and better communication with the public regarding the delays and their causes.
