A 28-year-old Moroccan man, El Mahdi Tbitbi, was arrested in Milan on charges of inciting terrorism.
Initially open to Western culture, Tbitbi's views shifted dramatically in 2022, leading to anti-Western social media posts supporting jihad.
His arrest followed a series of threatening messages on Instagram, including death threats against Westerners.
Despite his radical rhetoric, there is no evidence of him planning an attack or being part of a terrorist organization.
The investigation, led by Milan's anti-terrorism unit, was triggered by a complaint from a former parliamentarian who received threats after discussing Islamic veils on TV.
Tbitbi's radicalization was marked by manipulated religious messages and virtual connections with known extremists.
