Father Andrea Melis, a 60-year-old priest from Cagliari, has been placed under house arrest following serious allegations of sexual abuse against a minor.

The accusations state that Melis abused a 12-year-old altar boy over three years, offering him gifts such as designer clothes, video games, and prepaid card top-ups in exchange for silence.

The investigation began after the boy's family reported suspicious behavior, leading to further inquiries by the authorities.

Melis, who was the director of a local school and a well-known figure in the community, has also been accused of attempting to kiss other young boys.

Evidence collected during police searches included sexual items and notes confirming his long-term relationship with the victim.

The case has raised significant concerns within the local diocese, prompting immediate action against Melis.
