Pope Francis has returned to the Vatican after a 38-day hospital stay battling illness, during which he faced life-threatening moments.

Upon his discharge from the Gemelli Hospital, he expressed gratitude to the medical staff, saying their care reflected "the patience of God.

" Before heading back to Casa Santa Marta, the Pope made an unscheduled stop at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore to offer yellow flowers gifted to him.

Despite his recovery from pneumonia, his voice remains weak, and his muscles are still debilitated.

The Vatican is now considering how he will continue to lead the Church while managing his health.
