Political Tensions Rise Over Bologna Bombing

Published: 2024-08-04

In a recent interview, Federico Mollicone, a member of the Brothers of Italy party and president of the Culture Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, criticized the court rulings regarding the 1980 Bologna train station bombing that killed 85 people.

He referred to these rulings as a "theorem" aimed at discrediting the right-wing political faction.

His comments have sparked outrage, particularly from Andrea De Maria, a Bologna deputy, who called the remarks unacceptable and accused Mollicone of promoting unfounded alternative theories about the tragedy.

The ongoing debate highlights the deep political divisions in Italy regarding the interpretation of historical events, particularly those related to far-right violence.

Critics argue that such statements hinder the country's ability to confront its past and seek accountability.
