New Cultural Leader Challenges Last-Minute Decree

Published: 2024-09-11

Alessandro Giuli, newly appointed as the head of Italy's cultural sector, made a notable entrance at Montecitorio, expressing respect for the institution he now represents.

Despite his composed demeanor, Giuli addressed the controversial last-minute decree by former Minister Sangiuliano, which appointed 15 experts to a commission for selecting films eligible for public funding.

While Giuli stated he was not offended by Sangiuliano's actions, he hinted at potential changes to the decree.

His debut was marked by bipartisan greetings and a clear indication of his intent to reassess recent decisions impacting Italy's cultural landscape.
