Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is set to visit Naples on Monday to sign a protocol allocating 1.2 billion euros for the redevelopment of Bagnoli, a former industrial area.

This marks Meloni's first visit to Naples as Prime Minister.

The funds, drawn from development and cohesion resources, have sparked controversy with Campania's Governor Vincenzo De Luca, who claims the money belongs to the region.

Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, also the government commissioner for the area's redevelopment, will join Meloni for the signing.

The visit highlights ongoing tensions between central and regional governments, with De Luca criticizing the fund allocation as 'propaganda.
