A significant fire broke out at dawn today at a food distribution company located on the provincial road to Pianura, near Naples.
The blaze, described as "important" by investigating authorities, has caused extensive damage, particularly to refrigerated trucks used for transporting goods, with around ten vehicles completely destroyed.
The fire also spread to a warehouse, leading to the temporary suspension of the Pozzuoli-Villa Literno railway line.
A thick cloud of smoke has enveloped the area, visible from miles away, causing breathing difficulties for residents in Pozzuoli, Quarto, and Marano.
The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has convened a rescue coordination center to manage the situation, while firefighters continue to battle the flames with multiple teams and water tankers.
Environmental assessments are underway to determine the impact of the fire, with air quality tests being conducted for toxins like dioxins and furans.
Precautionary closures of nearby commercial and industrial activities have been implemented until further notice.
