In a significant crackdown on data theft, the Milan prosecutor's office has executed six precautionary measures, including four house arrests and two interdictions, following the discovery of sensitive data breaches from national strategic databases.
The investigation, led by the Varese investigative unit and coordinated by the Milan prosecutor's office, revealed a network involving law enforcement officers and hackers.
This group allegedly accessed police and financial databases, extracting sensitive information for private clients in exchange for money.
The operation, which included numerous searches both in Italy and abroad, resulted in charges of conspiracy, unauthorized access to computer systems, corruption, and illegal interception.
The databases targeted included those used by police forces and financial institutions, containing financial, health, and criminal records.
This investigation is separate from a similar probe by the Perugia prosecutor's office.
