The regional elections in Liguria are underway, with voting open from 7 AM to 11 PM today and continuing tomorrow from 7 AM to 3 PM.
The elections aim to elect a new regional council and a successor to Giovanni Toti as president, following his resignation due to judicial inquiries.
Despite the importance of these elections, voter turnout has been low, with only 30.7% of eligible voters participating by 7 PM, a decrease from 32% in 2020. The weather has been a significant factor, with heavy rains and storms affecting voter turnout, especially in areas like Savona, Imperia, and La Spezia.
However, Genova has seen a slight increase in voter participation.
Nine candidates are vying for the presidency, including Marco Bucci and Andrea Orlando, who have been actively encouraging citizens to vote.
The elections are seen as a crucial test for the political coalitions in the region.
