The Italian political party Lega, led by Matteo Salvini, has proposed a controversial law to ban the use of feminine terms in official documents.
Terms like "sindaca" (female mayor), "questora" (female police chief), "avvocatessa" (female lawyer), and "rettrice" (female rector) would be replaced with their masculine counterparts: "sindaco," "questore," "avvocato," and "rettore.
" The party argues that this move is necessary for the protection of the Italian language.
Those who fail to comply with the new regulations could face fines of up to 5,000 euros.
This proposal has sparked significant debate about gender identity and language in Italy.
