At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Italy's Nicolò Martinenghi made history by winning the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke, marking the country's first victory in this event in 24 years.
The 23-year-old swimmer clinched the title with a stunning final lap, finishing in 59.03 seconds, just ahead of Britain's Adam Peaty and the USA's Fink.
Martinenghi expressed his joy, stating, "I am speechless; it’s all about seizing the moment.
" Meanwhile, the Italian fencing team faced disappointment as none of the female fencers secured medals in the individual events, continuing a trend from the previous Olympics.
Despite the setbacks, the Italian team remains hopeful as they look forward to upcoming events, including the team competitions.
