For the first time, the National Agency for Regional Health Services (Agenas) has evaluated local health authorities (ASLs) across Italy, revealing significant disparities in healthcare quality.
The assessment, based on 40 indicators, highlights that 30 ASLs were rated positively, 53 received average scores, and 27 were deemed inadequate.
Notably, the avoidable mortality rate in Naples Centro is double that of Pesaro-Urbino, underscoring the critical role of competent management in healthcare outcomes.
The evaluation also showed stark differences in cancer screening coverage, with Trento achieving a 76% breast cancer screening rate, while Reggio Calabria lags at 1.4%.
These findings emphasize the need for improved healthcare management and equitable access to services across regions.
