Italy's Employment Hits Record High

Published: 2024-09-12

Italy's employment landscape is showing significant improvement, as reported by Istat for the second quarter of 2024. The number of employed individuals increased by 124,000, marking a 0.5% rise from the previous quarter, reaching a total of 23.94 million workers.

This growth is primarily driven by a 0.9% increase in permanent employees and a 0.7% rise in self-employed individuals, while temporary employment saw a decline of 1.9%.

The employment rate has reached a historic high of 62.2%, with the unemployment rate dropping to 6.8%, the lowest since 2008. This positive trend is observed across various demographics, including women and those over 34, although it remains stable for men and has decreased among the youth in the North.

The Italian government attributes this success to strategic policies aimed at reducing the gap between job demand and supply, focusing on skill development and worker training.
