Italy's government, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, is pushing forward with three major constitutional reforms.
The most contentious is the Calderoli law on differentiated autonomy, which was approved in June 2024. However, the Constitutional Court has mandated revisions, emphasizing that only specific functions, not entire subjects, can be devolved to regions.
This decision has sparked political debate, with the opposition's motion against the reform being rejected, leading to a symbolic protest in parliament.
Meanwhile, the reform introducing direct election of the Prime Minister and the separation of judicial careers are still under legislative scrutiny, with potential referendums looming if parliamentary consensus isn't reached.
