Italy has officially launched the IT Wallet, a digital platform allowing citizens to store important documents on their smartphones.

Available through the app IO, the IT Wallet enables users to upload digital versions of their driving license, health card, and European Disability Card.

This initiative positions Italy as a leader in digital identity within the EU, ahead of the 2026 European-wide rollout.

Over 430,000 Italians have already activated the wallet, uploading more than 700,000 documents.

The system promises high security and privacy standards, ensuring citizens have control over their digital identities.

Future updates may include digital identity cards and passports, pending international regulations.
