Italy Faces Intense Heatwave Ahead

Published: 2024-08-06

Italy is bracing for a significant heatwave as the African anticyclone, known as Caronte, continues to dominate the weather.

Starting from mid-week, temperatures are expected to rise, with highs reaching 39-40°C in the north and even 42-43°C in southern regions, particularly in Sicily and Sardinia.

Meteorologists warn that this summer will be remembered for its relentless heat, with many areas experiencing tropical nights where temperatures do not drop below 20°C.

While the extreme heat is not expected to break records, the continuous warm weather poses challenges, including drought conditions in Sicily and discomfort for those working outdoors.

The heatwave is likely to persist until at least Ferragosto, with some relief anticipated in the form of thunderstorms in the north early next week.
