Italian Unions Announce General Strike

Published: 2024-10-30

Italian unions CGIL and UIL have announced an eight-hour general strike on November 29, accompanied by territorial demonstrations.

The strike aims to protest the government's budget plan, which unions claim fails to address key issues such as wage and pension purchasing power, and funding for healthcare, education, and public services.

Union leaders Maurizio Landini and Pierpaolo Bombardieri criticized the budget for increasing precariousness and not involving social partners in its formulation.

They argue that the fiscal measures, including tax cuts, are insufficient and could be negated by inflation.

The unions have called for a revision of the budget, emphasizing the need for genuine solutions to the country's economic challenges.
