A pro-Palestine conference scheduled at the Italian Chamber of Deputies has sparked controversy due to the planned participation of lawyer Nicola Quatrano, known for past antisemitic remarks against Holocaust survivor Liliana Segre.
The event, organized by left-wing parties and NGOs, drew criticism from the right-wing Fratelli d'Italia party.
They demanded the event's cancellation and expressed solidarity with Segre.
Former Chamber President Laura Boldrini withdrew from the conference, stating Quatrano's presence was 'incompatible' with hers.
The Chamber's press office clarified that such events are solely the responsibility of organizing deputies.
Amid mounting pressure, the organizing associations ultimately canceled the conference, citing inability to ensure 'minimum conditions' for the main guest, Palestinian NGO director Shawan Jabarin.
