The "Ambiente Svenduto" trial, concerning alleged environmental and health damages caused by emissions from the Ilva steel plant in Taranto, will restart in Potenza.
This decision follows the annulment of the first-degree sentence by the Taranto branch of the Lecce Court of Appeal, citing concerns over impartiality as local judges were deemed "offended parties.
" The trial initially resulted in 26 convictions, including former regional governor Nichi Vendola.
Environmentalists fear the move could lead to statute limitations, potentially absolving serious charges like corruption and manslaughter.
Critics argue this sets a dangerous precedent, potentially undermining justice in major environmental cases.
