Honoring Italian Laborers' Sacrifice

Tomorrow marks the National Day of Sacrifice of Italian Laborers Worldwide, commemorating the tragic mining disaster in Marcinelle, Belgium, which occurred in 1956. On this day, 262 miners lost their lives, 136 of whom were Italian.

President Sergio Mattarella emphasized the importance of this anniversary, linking it to the fundamental principles of democracy and workers' dignity as outlined in the Italian Constitution.

He stated that the memory of the Marcinelle tragedy serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by Italian workers abroad and the ongoing need to ensure safe working conditions.

Mattarella expressed solidarity with the families of the victims, highlighting the enduring significance of this day in honoring the contributions of Italian laborers around the world.
