Global Crises Demand Urgent Action

Italian President Sergio Mattarella has raised alarm over the escalating global crises, highlighting 56 active conflicts in 2024—the highest since World War II.

Speaking to diplomats in Rome, he emphasized the deteriorating global security and the urgent need to address climate change.

Mattarella pointed to the devastating effects of the hottest decade on record, including rising sea levels and extreme weather events, which disproportionately impact vulnerable communities.

He called for swift international cooperation to accelerate energy transition and bridge the gap between climate goals and action.

Additionally, he warned against protectionism, advocating for free trade as a driver of growth.

On artificial intelligence, Mattarella urged inclusive development to prevent monopolies and ensure it serves the common good.
