Giovanni Toti's Political Comeback in Rome

Published: 2024-08-06

Former Ligurian President Giovanni Toti is in Rome to meet with key leaders of the center-right coalition ahead of the regional elections scheduled for October 27-28. After nearly three months under house arrest due to corruption allegations, Toti is eager to influence the selection of his successor.

He met with Maurizio Lupi, leader of his party, and Matteo Salvini, the Minister of Transport, discussing potential candidates for the upcoming elections.

Toti expressed confidence in his political future, stating he feels neither abandoned nor isolated.

He emphasized the need for a civic list to counterbalance the left-leaning coalition supporting candidate Orlando.

As the political landscape shifts, Toti's role remains pivotal, with discussions around judicial immunity for local officials also on the table.
