Forza Italia's leader, Antonio Tajani, has addressed the ongoing debate on citizenship laws, particularly in response to the Lega's proposal to revoke citizenship from foreigners who commit crimes after obtaining it.
Tajani emphasized the importance of education in granting citizenship, advocating for a system where those who have successfully studied in Italian schools are eligible.
He criticized the left's proposal of 'ius soli' as demagogic, favoring a more structured approach involving ten years of mandatory schooling.
Meanwhile, the Movimento Cinque Stelle has challenged Forza Italia and other parties to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete action on reforming the 1992 citizenship law.
Tajani, however, insists on focusing first on economic measures before addressing citizenship reforms.
