An explosion occurred shortly before 1 PM at the "Bar Bianco" alpine refuge in Rasura, located in the Orobie Alps, Valtellina, during the Ferragosto lunch.
Initial reports suggest that the blast was caused by a detergent canister left near a heat source, resulting in injuries to five staff members aged between 24 and 64. Two individuals with serious burns were airlifted to the hospital in yellow code, indicating they are not in life-threatening condition, while others sustained minor injuries.
The explosion, which was heard from several kilometers away, caused significant panic among those present and released a smoke column visible from afar.
Emergency services, including helicopters, ambulances, and fire brigades, responded promptly to the scene.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
