Leonardo Bertulazzi, a former member of the Genoa column of the Red Brigades, has been arrested in Argentina and will be extradited to Italy.
Bertulazzi, who has been on the run since 1980, faces a 27-year prison sentence for crimes including kidnapping, subversive association, and armed band activities.
His arrest was made possible after Argentine authorities revoked his refugee status, which he had obtained in 2004. This marks the second time Bertulazzi has been arrested in Argentina; he was previously detained in 2002 but later released.
The Italian and Argentine police, along with Interpol, collaborated closely to capture him in Buenos Aires.
Bertulazzi was involved in the 1977 kidnapping of naval engineer Piero Costa, a crime committed to fund terrorist activities, including the infamous kidnapping of Aldo Moro.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the operation as a testament to international cooperation.
