Crime Rates Rise in Italian Cities

Published: 2024-09-16

The latest Crime Index 2024 by Il Sole 24 Ore reveals a concerning rise in crime rates across major Italian cities.

Milan tops the list as the least safe city, with over 7,000 reports per 100,000 residents in 2023. Rome and Florence follow closely.

Notably, Rimini and Bologna are the only cities from Emilia-Romagna in the top ten, with Rimini ranking fourth and Bologna sixth.

Despite a slight decrease in reports, Bologna remains second for sexual violence complaints, with 222 cases in 2023. Rimini faces challenges with extortion and theft, exacerbated by its seasonal tourist influx.

Nationally, crime reports have increased by 3.8% since 2022, marking the first rise since 2013, particularly in violent crimes like homicides and assaults.
