In a startling breach of privacy, Vincenzo Coviello, an employee at Intesa Sanpaolo, has been found spying on the bank accounts and personal data of over three thousand individuals, including Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Coviello's routine life, commuting 27 kilometers from his home to the bank branch in Bisceglie, Puglia, masked his unauthorized access to sensitive information.
This incident highlights vulnerabilities in banking security systems, despite existing legal frameworks like the Banking Act and GDPR designed to protect customer data.
The case underscores the potential risks posed by insiders with access to critical financial information, raising questions about the effectiveness of current security measures in banks.
