A 12-year-old girl from Lazio has reported being sexually assaulted by an animator at a summer resort in Salento, Italy.

The incident allegedly occurred on Wednesday, July 10th, during a family vacation.

The victim confided in her mother and aunt, who promptly reported the case to the Carabinieri in Melendugno.

Following the report, the girl was taken to Santa Caterina Novella Hospital in Galatina for medical examination and psychological support.

Authorities have launched an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage from the resort and collecting evidence.

The accused animator has reportedly been questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry led by the Lecce prosecutor's office.
